![]() ![]() Apple's SSDs are pricey, but also have much higher performance than any SATA drive. ![]() You definitely want an SSD, at least enough for the OS and your working files(maybe 256 GB?), supplement with external storage for your music/photo/other media if you have too. If you're looking at a 21" then max out the RAM, particularly if you want to keep it another 10 years. ![]() The 27" still have used replaceable RAM, so if you're looking at that get the minumum RAM and upgrade yourself, ![]() That said, it depends what your budget is, maybe if you're willing to borrow a bit to get a better machine. You could same some by getting used, or an earlier model, but I think any savings would be offset by having a lower expected lifespan, having to replace it sooner. Given that you stuck with your old Mac that long, I'd get a current model, refurbished iMac.
